Why did the turtle cross the road?

Don't worry, we'll get to that. But first, a festival in Chincoteague Island's Robert Reed Park on the waterfront. For me, this was the most interesting part. The guy you can almost see in the background is a chainsaw artist. He doesn't use an electric chainsaw, so we could both hear and smell his work as we approached.

He moved around and around this piece, shaping a tall, flamingo-shaped bird.

You had to see it to believe it would become something. His finished work was a bit more convincing.

The only piece that talked to me was a mushroom not displayed here.

Off we went to a mosquito-full Woodland Trail hike. We had intended to take a side trail off to the shore of Tom's Cove, but the mozzies were fierce. Along the way, more pollen by the bucket.

All the formerly beautiful male cones, now have abandoned the pregnant female cones and lie withered on the ground.

Thanks to yesterday's experience, we now know that these dinosaurish creatures cross the road to get to the other gender for spring activities.

Off it goes for a 90 minute clutch in the water.

We just can't get away from these snapping turtles, it seems.
