Ghostly-teague

E and I had one of our follow-your-nose walks today. We struck off on a trail that branches from the Woodland Trail and goes over to the shore of Tom's Cove. It is definitely spring, but the ocean water is still quite cold. So, even though the sun was bright overhead, fog blew in from the Atlantic. That made for a cool breeze, bright conditions, but a short viewing distance. This view would normally show the beach on the other side of the cove, less than a mile away.

This area had lots of windfalls, impeding walking a lot.

Even with the short "throw" of the wind for developing waves, this beach had lots of erosion, exposing dead and dying trees.

Some managed to hang on with most of their roots exposed.

Later on in the walk we found lots of loblolly pine-cones in the making. They seemed to be of two varieties. This one was mostly green, with just a hint of purple at the tips.

These were more purple. Maybe they are just a bit older.

Anyway, they are quite beautiful (and plentiful, too).

It is no wonder the fox squirrels are so fat. They must eat well.

  2. Just telling a story, man! I'm guessing you liked the pine-cone macro shots. They are really beautiful.

  3. Yes, the pine cone macro shots are really very nicely done. Sometimes, the most common things take on a beauty quite unexpected. The fog shots were great as well.

  4. I didn't mean to too my own horn. I meant the pine cones are beautiful, not the shots. Thanks for the vote, though.
